Happy Birthday Reese Witherspoon…again!

I could not contain my excitement to be given the honor to make Reese Witherspoon’s birthday cake for her Draper James birthday celebration for the second time (some of you may remember this pink handbag cake I created a few years back.) Draper James tasked me with creating a cake replica of this year’s birthday gift to Reese—a beautiful rattan bag with painted magnolia flowers and white leather accents.

To create the illusion of the purse, I took countless measurements of the real bag to ensure it was sized appropriately. Next, I drew templates and cut out each of the bag details by hand. Finally, I hand-painted the magnolia flower design and added the white leather details (made of fondant, of course). Here’s a great video timelapse of the entire behind the scenes process.
