Sugar Roses and Pears Picnic Basket Cake

A sugar rose is something I will never tire of. There’s something about the cream colored flower that is so delicate and classically beautiful.

So when searching for inspiration for a new cake design to incorporate them, I saw a photo of a french style picnic basket that included perfectly green pears and a small bouquet of roses and I knew instantly that would be it.

The picnic basket portion is made up of sculpted french vanilla cake, topped with sculpted individual cake pears and finished with a handful of gum paste sugar roses. You can see some photos of the finished picnic basket cake below.
